REWILD.info Field Guide:About
From REWILD.info Field Guide, the free Field Guide To Rewilding
Welcome to REWILD.info. I created this site to serve as a nexus of information to those with little or no community support or elders or wisemen or ninety year old apache shaman to teach them rewilding skills. My hope lies in that people will converse here, asking questions and gaining answers. Then, they will post this information on the Field Guide wiki, making it available to someone in the future who will not have to surf through the archives of the forum, or start the conversation again (I guess they can do that too, we can always learn more about anything I suppose).

[edit] What does "rewild" mean?
- For main article, see Rewild
rewild, v : to return to a more natural or wild state; the process of undoing domestication. Synonyms: undomesticate, uncivilize.
The term originated from the anarcho-primitivist (or "green anarchist") movement, many who believe that humans must return to a more "feral" state, through the process they have coined "rewilding," either due to ethics or for survival as civilization collapses on itself. The term has broadend outside of the specific anarchist culture to include just about anyone who learns primitive skills not as a hobby, but as a lifestyle change.
[edit] Why does this site exist?
This site exists for you and your community, and primarily as a tool to disperse information that will help the future generations of all things; human and other-than-human alike. Many people cannot afford to go to wilderness schools or purchase field guides, but most people can use the internet for free, at a library for example. This site will help unschoolers and low-income people have access to information and people that they otherwise could not afford.
Secondly it provides a community, at least in some sense, to those with no local community. It may also enhance communities that already exist by providing more information for them as well.
Thirdly it exists as a place for people to meet and make plans concerning the crash of civilization; ie. where to go, where to meet, etc etc.
[edit] How does one reconcile using modern technology to return to a wild state?
Our elders have long died. This information exists in pockets and only practiced by a few. This site, while seemingly contradictory in principle, does not contradict the transmission of traditional ecological knowledge we all needed for such a return. Any means neccessary to rewild. This site forms another means for those who cannot find any other starting places, or feel inspired to help those with no other starting places. In time, all of this will fade, but for now we need communication and we need something to stand in for our elders, this site attempts to do just that.
[edit] Tell me about this word, Wiki?
- For main article, see Wiki
People call a website and database that anyone can edit and browse, a wiki. Wikipedia shows us an example of a highly successful and useful wiki.
[edit] How does this site differ from Wikipedia?
Wikipedia does not have much information in regards to rewilding. Setting up a site such as this, with conversations serving as a starting point may increase the data of a rewild focused wiki. While this site will serve only rewilders, the information here may end up enriching wikipedia in general, should people feel inspired to add the information there as well.
[edit] Who runs this site?
Urban Scout, me, operates this site as part of my project to rewild myself and as many people as possible. I keep a blog detailing my adventures and I realized that many others had the same idea. I figured it would only strengthen our efforts if we stored all of our information in one place. This field guide wiki on site means to do just that. This site and my project have had Mythmedia as a sponsor for a long time.
[edit] I think this site sucks!
Well, I try my darndest but regularly fail to reach perfection. I encourage any and all suggestions for improvement; I don't own this site. I didn't create it for you, or me alone, but every rewilder out there. I pledge I will manage this space as a communal one. Please leave me/us a note in the suggestion box.
